... in
today's environment of downsizing and flatter structures,
managers at all levels are finding themselves in positions
where they need to develop and practice new skills and behaviours.
Most managers today have access to traditional analytical
techniques, along with a sound understanding of their business
and its environment, but they may need support to learn and
practice the various skills that will allow them to manage
effectively and think innovatively. It is these skills, woven
together in a dynamic balance throughout the management team,
that allow the organisation to be visionary, focussed and
flexible.
The need to put each of the Arts into practice
is likely to vary according to the level of management and
the situation. Hence, senior managers are more likely to need
to exercise strategic skills on a regular basis, while middle
level managers are more likely to be tasked with the hands-on
implementation of plans. However, in today's environment of
downsizing and flatter structures, managers at all levels
are finding they are called on to learn and develop an ever
increasing range of new management skills. |
